Waaaaaay back on August 20th, my long time friend had a baby boy, by the name of Henry. Henry came into the world by the way of C-Section at 9 lbs. 8 oz. (If that link doesn't work, you can go to www.growingfamily.com, click on New Parents, then Web Nursery, and then do a search in August for a baby with Mother's first 3 letters of last name of "BUL". There's Henry.)
Now, I've written this next part about 3 times, only to have my blogging session time out. I'm bound and determined to get it through, this time.
I'm looking forward towatching my friend go through these next few years. I am happy for him to be sure, but someof it I have to admit is seeing how he handles fatherhood. I have no doubt that he;ll succeed, don't get me wrong. BUt it will be nice to see him experience the other side of the following conversation.
Dude #1: Hey, man. we're putting togeather a road trip to Miami to see the Hogs take on the Juggs! YOu in?
Dude #2: Aw, man! That'll be the game of the year! Oh, wait. I have a wife to answer to, along with a baby to take care of. Should I buy football tickets, or should I buy baby formula?
Aw, Dude #1, I can't go.
Dude #1: Bummer dude. (peels out on his way to Miami...)
You get the idea. Balancing the responsibilities of a parent and the impulses of a childless person are just one of the many battles that you fight. Then again, nothing will ever provide him with the rewards that he'll have as a father.
Welcome to the World, Henry!
Famous Henrys throughout history:
Patrick Henry - Patriot, Virginian.
Henry Ford -inventor, businessman
King Henry the VIII -King. Of England. Philanderer. Probably not the best role model, however.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - poet, literary giant But then again, he was NOT the guy who wrote this:
-Joyce Kilmer
Henry Cavendish - scientist, discovered Hydrogen, discovered the density of the earth.
Henry David Thoreau - writer who talked about finding happiness in what you ahve, rather than materialistic things. Sounds like a good philosophy to follow, in my humble opinion.
Dr. Henry Heimlich - Doctor. Life Saver. The guy with the manuver. I have a manuver named after me too, though it doesn't save lives. (Or does it?)
Henry "Hank" Aaron - baseball player. Hit a few home runs in his time. Might have heard of him.
Henry Mancini - composer. But not just any composer. The guy composed The Pink Panther theme song. That says it all right there.
Movie Quote of the Day or whatever this ends up being :
[Henry flicks a wad of paper at Rachel in the library]
Henry : [whispers] Dad, stop it!
[He flicks another wad of paper at her]
Rachel : [whispers sternly] Dad, I'm serious!
Henry : I know. Very.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
